June

  • Unpack the Story: Main Street with KUOW's Joshua McNichols

Join us for Unpack the Story a new KUOW YouTube series. This virtual series brings together KUOW journalists and community members to explore some of KUOW’s top stories of the year. Hosted by KUOW’s Community Engagement director Zaki Hamid, we’ll unpack the most impactful stories and investigations, all chosen by you. Share your questions with the news teams involved, learn what went in to making the story and get the most up-to-date developments. For our first event, our audience voted for KUOW's "The Main Street Project" with Joshua McNichols. Join us as we explore the series, take your questions and talk with Breanne Durham, director of Washington State's "Main Street" program, part of the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. We'll talk with Durham about how her program helps communities revive their business districts using strategies centered around each community's unique heritage and attributes. We’ll also take a look at how businesses and business districts have changed during the pandemic, what innovations will stay, and whether this past year has changed our relationship to our neighborhood businesses. This free live virtual event will be presented on KUOWs YouTube and Facebook channels Wednesday, June 2 at 4 p.m. RSVP and share your questions.
